The Scrum Master (SM) will support and coach Agile team(s) by empowering them to leverage the Agile mindset, methods and tools and enabling quality delivery while maintaining a focus on the continuous improvement of the team. The SM will optimize team productivity by removing impediments that may obstruct the pursuit of the team’s goals and by preserving flexibility and ability to rapidly respond to changes on the team and the Agile Release Train (ART).

 

The incumbent will lead the enhancement of best practices in relation to a high-performance Agile team’s processes, artifacts and tools. The SM is a key member of the Marketing team, which assists the organization with launching, stabilizing and optimizing program level and portfolio level teams while adapting and promoting Agile frameworks, principles and practices. Resources to do the job require reliance on in-depth knowledge of Agile mindset/methodologies and tools, as well as being an Agile champion with project management and relationship management skills. General direction is received from the Sr Manager, Marketing Technology & Operations.

 

Responsibilities

Team Facilitation

  • Facilitates Agile ceremonies to ensure team(s) maintain focus on quality and continuous delivery
  • Provides visibility into delivery targets, commitments, progress and any relevant team data necessary to provide maximum team transparency
  • Partner with and coach Product Owners to achieve maximum project return on investment and meet PI Objectives and Milestones
  • Works with and supports Marketing Product Owners, Analysts, Architects, Software Engineers, Project Management Office (PMO) and other internal partners to plan ahead and prioritize work while limiting Work in Process (WIP)
  • Understand domain architecture and targets to identify upstream/downstream dependencies and to support the team in risk management
  • Proactively identify impediments and appropriately resolve using a network of peers and formal channels (including escalation if required)

Agile Release Train Support & Communication

  • Participates in release planning, PI Planning, Inspect & Adapt, Scrum of Scrums, and other ceremonies as needed. Providing Scrum team statistics, identifying project dependencies, team capacity, velocity forecasts, burndowns/burn-ups, dashboards, and Program Board updates
  • Continuously identifies and manages cross-team dependencies and reports progress and impediments to the Release Train Engineer
  • Maintains alignment, tagging, completion, reporting and overall oversight of team backlog items (stories/features) in Azure DevOps (ADO) to maximize project/program transparency and ensure timely program adjustments

Continuous Improvement

Maintain high-performing & predictable Agile team(s) by:

  • Managing and optimizing the flow of value through the Agile team(s) using various tools, such as Kanban, ADO, the Program Board, team Measure & Grow metrics and other information radiators
  • Partnering with systems teams to ensure the Agile team(s) tools are properly supporting the ART and maximizing transparency/flow
  • Supporting PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of the Vision, the Roadmap, and the Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
  • Improving the flow of value through value streams by improving and assessing the Agile team’s practices associated with DevOps and Release on Demand in the Continuous Delivery Pipeline
  • Capturing team feedback through inspection and continuously improving Agile guidance, educational materials and content
  • Partnering with the Project Management Office (PMO) on program execution and operational excellence
  • Driving continuous improvement via workshop facilitation in the Inspect and Adapt ceremony; assess the agility level of the team(s) and help them improve
  • Assisting the Agile Center of Excellence as a member of the team by contributing to continuous improvement efforts directly or indirectly impacting the Agile teams
  • Participating and/or facilitating Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
  • Mentor team members, Product Owners, business owners and partners on the ART in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
  • Provide best practices using Scrum, Kanban and other Agile methodologies

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years knowledge and experience applying Agile practices and principles including Scrum and/or Kanban, including demonstrated ability to inspect and adapt Agile practices to various situations
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent
  • Certification must be from Scaled Agile Inc., ScrumAlliance, ICAgile, or other equally recognized certification body
  • Experience with a variety of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, XP, Kanban, etc.)
  • Experience with large-scale complex technology projects and coordinating one or more Agile teams
  • 2+ years’ experience implementing & working in an Agile @ Scale Framework as a Scrum Master
  • 5+ years of presentation skills and experience communicating, collaborating, and influencing a team
  • Prior work item tracking tool (TFS, Azure DevOps, Jira, etc.) experience
  • Additional Licensing and Certification: SAFe SA/SSM, CSPO, A-CSPO, A-CSM, CSP-SM/PO, PMI-ACP, CTC, CAL (or equivalents)
